Braincells take another beating

Yesterday was an incredibly hot day. My weather widget is on holiday at the moment, so I don't know the exact digits, but it was muggy and too hot to do anything much. I met Heather and Karl for breakfast at Fridge, vented about the turmoil du jour, and had a tasty bagel. I can't believe I refused to eat tomatoes for the first 19 years of my life.

I stopped by Jimmy's not long after midday, thinking coffee was on the cards. The general consensus was that on such a hot, humid day, the only thing one can do is consume beer. We did. All afternoon. With the occasional foray out onto the harshly sunny front lawn to practise our soccer technique. (Mine could use some improvement).

I had vague intentions to check out Christmas in the Park, but predictably by the time I got anywhere close to the Domain it was 10:15pm and hordes of people seemed to be walking away. Instead I loitered on K Rd until my posse caught me up and helped me finish my wine... oh that does make me sound like a wino, doesn't it. We were at somebody's house, not just sifting, honest! I wandered up to Eden's bar for the Cheese On Toast 2nd birthday gig, and enjoyed the Whipping Cats' set - energetic, harmonica and so many curls! Once it was over I realised I was really boozed and didn't know anyone, Heather having not showed up yet, so I adjourned to a friend's house nearby. I had the best of intentions of returning to see Charlie Ash... but I didn't make it. Soz, girls.

I did eat a very good pie on the way home though - chicken and kumara. Inspired combination.

Today has been typically dazed, and not without textual complications. Blah. I caught up with a friend and discovered she has just bought a house. And there I was getting excited about the early Christmas present I scored on Friday...

We drove to Newmarket for a coffee, before realising that I had to be back home by 4pm and we would have exactly enough time to park the car before it would be time to leave again. Met yet another potential flatmate. Did I mention we need a new flatmate?? Any takers?? Let me know. G'aarn.

Then it was time to do that task peculiar to the weekends - go retrieve my car. While my host dozed on the couch, I read the Sunday paper. Which is to say I read the glossy bit that comes with it. Yes, I am terribly ostrich, take very little interest in current events and am appallingly ill-informed. So?

There was a story on dating, and the somewhat stunted way we do it in New Zealand. It was most timely and improved my mood considerably. Texting is a minefield! Dating is supposed to be fun!

Anyway, I'm over it ;)

I'll second that about the weather on Saturday. What was worse was we had dinner at Wildfire! Can you think of a hotter place to eat on a night like that? And un-airconditioned clubs on 20+ degree nights are bad.

I remember you not eating tomatoes, but you're all growed up now. And they are SOOOO good for you!
