Music Must Haves

Right now I really really want the new album from the Decemberists - Picaresque. Does anyone know when it hits the NZ shelves??

Other exciting new music which I must own before long includes the Arcade Fire – Funeral, the new White Stripes (okay, I’ve got a couple of months to wait for that one), and I have still to find albums by Blanket Music and the Album Leaf. It’s all very well for certain people who run online music stores to wax on about great new sounds but do you think they could get around to stocking it?!

In other music news I look forward to seeing lots and lots of Welli folk this Saturday at Indigo for the first Wellington show from Hot Swiss Mistress in about a zillion years. It's for the April A Low Hum tour, also featuring zombie surf rockers the Chandeliers and those crazy kids Connan and the Mockasins. If you're in Auckland, then I'll be seeing you next Saturday 30th for the 09 version at the Dogs' Bollix.

I don't know when Picaresque arrives here but you can buy it from Real Groovy and take advantage of their 20% off sale this month. Or you can do what I did, I got it straight from Amazon. I am sure I have actually seen the Funeral CD on some shelf in some shop during my wanders. You're ahead of me on the other two, but - never heard of either. What's good about them?

Thanks to my superior mp3 finding abilities (brag) I got Funeral & Picaresque when the albums leaked last november (double brag), Picaresque is fantastic, you can download one of the best tracks 'Engine Driver' over at amazon for free. No idea when it comes out here -- I thought it already had -- I'm going to wait around till they release special live mixes or a bonus dvd to pick it up.

As for The Arcade Fire -- meh. Assuming you have no scruples over such things I could probably point you towards the mp3s for it (oh, the braggage!).

You should have no problem finding the Stripes' new single Blue Orchid floating around the net either. I'm jonesing for the video which I hear is Michel Gondry directed! I heart him hard in the face.

Hi Kevin! That's pretty cool that you know Mr Meloy. I have t-shirt envy :)

Thanks for the tip off Tam, I now have 'Engine Driver' and it's very nice. I'm not so sure about 'Blue Orchid', Jack's vocal style is a bit mad..

THANKS AUD!! Got your package yesterday and it's fantastic! I have a new high-rotate, yay.

Thanks for the link Herge, am checking it out now. I seldom watch tv so I usually miss out on videos - if they make it this far in the first place.
